Childcare
We are dedicated to children. Child care is one of the core initiatives of PFSC, offering a full range of child care services. Licensed by the Department of Public Welfare and accredited as a Keystone Stars II facility, PFSC provides a clean, safe, secure, and comfortable environment where children thrive and flourish.
PFSC has six separate classrooms, with each specifically designed for the five distinctive age groups. These individual groups follow a consistent daily schedule that revolves around learning levels of the children.
The arrangements of the childcare rooms include:
| Infants | |
| Young Toddlers (2 Rooms) | |
| Older Toddlers | |
| Young Preschool | |
| Older Preschool / Pre-K |
Snacks
Breakfast and an afternoon healthy snack are provided for Young Toddlers, Older Toddlers and Pre-K children. Lunch is not provided. For Infants, parents must supply ALL meals, drinks, and snacks. A report to inform parents about their child's food intake, nap times, and diapering is prepared daily for Infants through Older Toddlers.
Our Staff
PFSC's Child Care staff are trained in early childhood education and are involved in ongoing training. Lead teachers possess an Associate or Bachelor degree in early childhood education and/or elementary education. The staff work closely with each child's parents and/or guardians to ensure their children's specific needs are met. They communicate daily as well as through periodic Parent-Teacher Conferences. Staff members are certified yearly in CPR and First Aid through the American Red Cross.
The Curriculum
Providence began a new curriculum in February 2010 that provides individual and classroom experiences tailored to the children we serve.
Curriculum is dynamic, changing from classroom to classroom, year to year based on a child's developmental needs. Creative Curriculum promotes a balance between planned experiences that help children progress toward defined goals. Experiences emerge from a child's interests and are then incorporated into a program that complies with learning standards and developmental goals. Providence has implemented a new model utilizing a star theme. The five points of the star outline our new curriculum. They include:
- Learning Environment – inviting and stimulating, keep children involved in learning citing early childhood research.
- Teaching Methods – using child observations teachers make intentional decisions about what children should learn and themes chosen.
- Daily Schedule – planned experiences build children's growth and development.
- Assessment – measures how children are making progress in skill development.
- Children's Goals – individualized goals make experiences challenging yet achievable.
